Model Overview

The Geely Galaxy Xingyao 8 is an executive D-segment plug-in hybrid (PHEV) saloon under Geely Auto’s Galaxy sub-brand. The model received regulatory homologation in February 2025 and officially hit the market on 9 May of the same year. On 30 March 2026, Geely Galaxy introduced the Xingyao 8 "Voyage" series, adding three variants with a 225 km pure electric range alongside the existing 130 km EM-i Premium Edition. The 2026 line-up comprises 4 variants, with official retail pricing ranging from RM142,800 to RM172,800, and limited-time early-bird launch pricing between RM125,800 and RM148,800. Positioned as an executive luxury electrified hybrid saloon, it centres on "Safety, Aesthetics, Space, Performance, and Technology", quickly establishing itself as a benchmark in the premium PHEV saloon segment upon launch.

Design Language

The Xingyao 8 embodies the Geely Galaxy family’s "Ripple Aesthetics" design philosophy. The front fascia draws inspiration from traditional upturned eaves and the focused gaze of a tiger, integrated with a closed-off grille and sleek, slim LED headlamp clusters; the profile features a low-slung fastback silhouette and frameless doors, with a roofline inspired by the Broken Bridge of West Lake; the rear features a full-width light bar alongside a high-mount stop lamp. The car boasts an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.25 Cd. In terms of dimensions, it measures 5,018 mm long, 1,918 mm wide, and 1,480 mm tall, with a 2,928 mm wheelbase. The 2026 Voyage series introduces two bespoke paint schemes: "Sunshine Gold" and "Danxia Ore", while the Xinghe Edition can be optioned with the Shining Night sports exterior styling package.

Inside, the cabin features a wrap-around layout with 85% soft-touch surface coverage, accented by wood-grain trim and a two-tone Sandalwood Brown/Obsidian Grey scheme. The 2026 Xinghe Edition can be specified with a bespoke Galaxy Grey Autosoft microfibre suede interior. All variants come equipped with a 15.4-inch floating central infotainment touchscreen and a 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster as standard, while higher-spec variants gain an upgraded 25.6-inch AR-HUD (Augmented Reality Head-Up Display).

Powertrain & Performance

The Xingyao 8 is offered with two PHEV setups: EM-i and EM-P. The EM-i variant pairs a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine (82 kW) with a front electric motor (175 kW), delivering a total system output of 257 kW and 398 Nm of torque. The EM-P variant combines a 1.5T turbocharged engine (120 kW) with an electric motor (180 kW), churning out a combined 300 kW and 605 Nm of torque. The 0-100 km/h century sprint is achieved in 7.9 seconds for the EM-i and 6.35 seconds for the EM-P. Both variants house a 28.3 kWh new-generation Aegis Golden Brick battery pack, delivering a CLTC-rated electric-only range of 225 km, with total combined cruising ranges reaching 1,725 km on the EM-i and 1,655 km on the EM-P with a full tank and full charge. Fuel consumption under depleted battery conditions (CLTC) is rated at an ultra-low 3.32 L/100 km for the EM-i and 3.41 L/100 km for the EM-P. A 30% to 80% DC fast charge takes merely 15 minutes, with support for 6 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse charging.

Chassis & Handling

The Xingyao 8 comes standard across the range with a proven suspension setup consisting of front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent arrangement, where the rear five-link setup effectively optimises wheel geometry, expanding the tyre contact patch and improving high-speed cornering stability. FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) adaptive dampers are standard across all variants, actively adjusting stiffness according to real-time road conditions. The chassis benefits from Geely’s AI virtual tuning and heartbeat-fitting algorithms, clocking a high moose test entry speed of 80 km/h. Its 100-0 km/h emergency stopping distance is 34.5 metres. Power is sent strictly to the front wheels (FWD), with wheel fitments available in 235/50 R18 and 245/45 R19 specifications.

Cabin & Equipment

Inside, the 2026 range comes standard with the upgraded Flyme Auto 2.0 intelligent cockpit operating system. Powered by a 7nm Longying One cockpit chipset, it integrates the DeepSeek AI model and supports full-scenario "see-and-speak" continuous voice commands without wake-up keywords. A 23-speaker Flyme Sound audio system is fitted as standard across all variants, delivering a 7.1.4 panoramic surround acoustic layout with a 2,000 W power amplifier. On the comfort front, mid-to-high-spec variants feature VIP executive power-adjustable seats, boasting a segment-leading cushion length of 536 mm and a backrest recline of up to 131°. The front seats can fold completely flat to 180°, merging seamlessly with the rear bench into an integrated daybed. The seats also incorporate heating, ventilation, and massage functions.

Safety & Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

For advanced driver assistance, the Yuanyang Edition and Xinghe Edition are equipped with the Qianli Haohan Assisted Driving H5 suite. The hardware suite comprises 1 ultra-long-range high-precision LiDAR, 3 millimetre-wave radars, 11 HD cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors—making up 27 perception units in total. The system runs on the NVIDIA Orin-Y autonomous driving SoC. Functional capabilities include full-scenario Urban NOA and Highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA), covering 19 common driving scenarios; the automated parking assist identifies over 300 parking slot types and supports custom bay parking.

In terms of passive safety, the vehicle adopts a Star Armour safety cell structure and TWB integrated hot-stamped boron steel door rings, with the A-pillars reinforced by 4-layer 1,500 MPa boron steel; it also debuts a world-first "ten-grid" aluminium alloy anti-collision side sill structure, engineered to withstand up to 65 tonnes of lateral pole impact force. Active safety highlights include the standard BMXS blowout stability control system, which ensures the vehicle remains stable during sudden tyre punctures at straight-line speeds of up to 160 km/h and cornering speeds of up to 120 km/h; AES emergency evasive steering assist can operate at speeds up to 130 km/h. The car meets the stringent C-NCAP five-star crash safety standards.

Market Performance & Reception

The Xingyao 8 recorded remarkable market momentum following its launch. Confirmed bookings exceeded 10,000 units within the first 6 days, and it went on to secure the annual sales crown in the mid-to-high-end electrified hybrid saloon segment with 73,612 units delivered in just 8 months. As of March 2026, cumulative sales have surpassed 80,000 units. In March 2026, monthly registrations for the Xingyao 8 stood at approximately 2,526 units. These sales fluctuations have drawn some market attention. Concurrently, some owners have noted that real-world ADAS performance fell short of promotional hype. Overall, the Geely Galaxy Xingyao 8 leverages its core packaging of a "5-metre footprint + 225 km pure electric range + LiDAR-based ADAS + 23-speaker premium audio" alongside a keen limited-time entry price from RM125,800, demonstrating the formidable appeal of "tech democratisation" in the premium PHEV saloon space.
